I was just introduced to this duck-tastic game of hide-n-seek within cruise ships. The concept of the game is to hide fifty rubber ducks on your cruise ship. Sounds simple enough, however, there are certain guidelines within the rubber duck community, (https://cruiseradio.net/everything-you-need-to-know-about-cruise-ducks/)

1)     Hide the ducks in public areas, however some people have found the rubber ducks in their stateroom

2)     Do not hide the ducks in the shops on board

3)     Avoid windy places that might send the poor duck into the ocean

4)     Avoid using obscenities on attached notes, this will allow for family friendly game of hide and seek.

A little background story, a ten-year old girl by the name of Abby from Liberty, Texas has been credited for starting this cute game in 2018. She hid fifty ducks on board a Carnival Breeze for her fellow passengers to find. However, the popularity of the ducks has moved to other cruise ships such as, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess and Crystal Cruises.

The wide spread popularity of this game, is in thanks, to social media, Facebook has about five group pages that caught onto this niche. Most people take selfies with the duck they find and post. Once such page, “Cruising ducks-original page group” has about 33,000 members and post about 10 new content per day. Within that particular group they have their own guidelines (https://www.travelpulse.com/news/cruise/the-latest-cruise-trend-is-an-invasion-of-rubber-duckies.html)

The guidelines are the same as the ones mentioned before, however, the FB page did add this:

Attach a tag to your duck that reads, "Keep or hide, you decide! FB #CruisingDucks,” (or place it on the bottom) so that others know how to track its course.

Some players of this cute game have gone beyond the rubber ducks and have crotched small ducks or decorated the ducks. Additionally, other people have chosen to hide small plush toys, key chains, or homemade candies.

On your next cruise keep an eye out for little yellow ducks.
